About Las Vegas Scout Troop 770
Troop Meetings
Las Vegas Scout Troop 770 meets regularly during the regular school year on Wednesdays at 7pm at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church at 2004 Spring Gate Lane in Summerlin.
Our meetings usually last around an hour. During a typical meeting, the Scouts work in Patrols on activities that include preparing for upcoming outings or campouts, rank advancement and Patrol bonding.
We break in the Summer from Troop meetings, but we do participate in organized BSA camps and other activities during the summer with a planned high adventure every other summer.
If you are interested in attending an upcoming meeting, send us an email so we can expect you and make sure to welcome you properly!
Troop History
Las Vegas Scout Troop 770 was founded in 2013 with the girls troop established in 2019.
Today, there are about 21 active Scouts in the boys troop and about 16 active Scouts in the girls troop.
Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church is our Chartering organization but our meetings and activities are secular, and we are open to youth of any religious faith.
Fun Fact: Some of our families have Scouts in both Troops. It’s one of the great features of the Scouts BSA program – siblings can participate and earn the same awards. It also makes it convenient for parents if everyone is going to the at least some of the same Scouts BSA events!
Activities
We are an active Troop with active families. We offer a busy, year-round program to develop character, leadership and outdoor skills.
Fun fact about Scouting: youth don’t need any prior Scouts experience to join. Girls and boys ages 11-17 can join anytime and they don’t need any Scouting or outdoor background, skills or experience.
In addition to camping, Las Vegas Troop 770 Scouts and adult leaders enjoy and participate in activities such as rock climbing and rappelling at Joshua Tree, backpacking, canoeing, hiking, and more. Some of our more recent activities include a scuba diving course at Lake Mead, an astronomy campout at Cathedral Gorge, summer camp at Camp Emerald Bay, Camp Tifie, Camp Whitsett, Camp Geronimo, snow hiking at Mt. Charleston and a fishing trip in Utah.
Troop 770 is part of the Metro North District in the Las Vegas Area Council. The Council also offers activities we regularly participate in, such as camporees, merit badge clinics and leadership programs such as National Youth Leadership Training.
Advancement
We strive to ensure Scouts learn and earn skills, awards and ranks. Scouts advance as their initiative, skills and understanding allow. They progress at their own pace, within a supportive, encouraging structure. As much as possible, Scouts lead and teach one another.
We have had many Scouts reach the rank of Eagle Scout.

Two Troops: How does it work?
The Scout Troop 770 girls and boys have their own exclusive, respective Scoutmaster, but each otherwise share share one chartered organization and one adult committee and adult leadership. Each Troop is Scout-led, employing the Patrol-method, and elects its own Scout leadership, i.e., Patrol Leaders and officers, and a Senior Patrol Leader. The troops have the same weekly meeting time and location but plan activities separately, utilizing the same monthly core skills to focus on and organizing their campouts, even if jointly scheduled.

2) APPLY. Complete a BSA Youth Application and Adult(s) Application. Go online HERE for the boys unit or HERE for the girls unit, or reach out to any adult leader for printed applications.
3) FEES. There are three fees to know about. First, pay your $25 BSA National registration fee if you are new to scouting. Otherwise, this is a fee you only need to pay one time. Second, pay your annual dues ($315 per scout per year, prorated for the month you join, plus a one-time Troop Class B T-shirt fee of $15.
