FAQs

How do I RSVP for campouts and events?

At meetings, you need to find Mr. and Mrs. Amsterdam, our Events Coordinators. and RSVP with them by letting them know you will attend.  You must then pay the campout fee (usually ~$10-$25 for gas and groceries)  to secure your spot. The amount shall be paid to  either the Amsterdams or to Mr. Hoffman, our Troop Committee Treasurer.  If you have RSVPed and paid to attend a campout and have to cancel, you may find a Scout to take your place so you don't lose your fee paid, but if you don't find a replacement, you forfeit the fee.

DEADLINES for RSVPs for campouts is 2 weeks prior to the campout.

PRO TIP: Best is to RSVP at the meeting that is 3 Wednesdays prior to the campout, or 16 days before the campout on the Troop's Google Calendar or the Troop's website or at the meetings.

How do I find out about campouts and events?

Check the Troop's Google Calendar or the Troop's website or at the meetings. (See below about staying in touch or participate)

How do I stay in touch or participate?

Be sure the Committee Chair (Ms. Yan) has all Scout mobile phone nos. and email addresses as well as at least 1 parent's mobile phone no. and email. Then, here are the 3 ways for Scouts and/or Parents to stay in touch or keep up with the Troop activities:

1) Read the weekly emails and read the "Events" section (bottom portion of email newsletter on the right-hand side) -- you will find a list of meetings on the left and events on the right;

2) Go to the Troop website at www.lasvegastroop770.org, and click "Troop Resources" under the Parents & Scouts tab at the top (for password, see New Parent Orientation info sheet or ask Ms. Yan, a SM or ASM or your SPL; OR

3) Troop Google Calendar to see all events--in order to see detailed events, email me with a request for me to  share the Google Calendar with you. You must have a Google email address (or iCloud works) to allow share and view.

How do I get full access to view the Troop's Google Calendar?

To view the Google Calendar, you must have permission from the Troop. To do this, you must have a Google account.  Then, email the Committee Chair your Google or Gmail email address. Once added, you will receive an email with a link to "Add Calendar." Once added, in order to view the calendar, you must be logged on to that particular Google account (if you have several).  You can then view the Troop Google Calendar on Google Calendar. You can also synch the Google Calendar (known as "BSA Troop 770") with your Cal app on iPhone. If it does not automatically appear on your list of Calendars, go to www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect and check the box at "BSA Troop 770." Then go to your Cal app (and refresh if already open) and you should see the "BSA Troop 770" calendar to select.

How do I renew my membership?

You should be contacted by Scouting America, directly by email to renew all Scout and adult registrations, a month or so prior to the due date. If you joined after August 2023, the due date is the anniversary date of the day you joined. For those who joined prior to August 2023, your due date is December 31

ADULTS: If you miss the renewal deadline, you have to reapply and pay new scout fees again.  Also, adults, you will need to renew and do not let your YPT lapse or it will result in you having to reapply and re-do YPT if you are already certified as well as a new application and new MB application if also a MB counselor.  Please do not let your membership(s) lapse!

TO RENEW:  Sign into my.scouting.org and go to the bell icon at the top right indicating you have a notification to renew. Click the bell and you will be directed to the renewal page.  If you do not have a bell, click on “My Application” and then “My Renewals.”  You will be directed to make payment. If you do not see your Scout’s application/membership information to renew, log out and the log back in using your Scout’s credentials. Then try going to “My Application” and then “My Renewals,” again. You should see your Scout’s application to re-register and renew.  If not, then please email Ms. Yan at tina@lasvegastroop770.org (or call) to renew with at credit card over the phone. Each step is not immediate and usually requires at least 24-hours to take effect or reflect on Scoutbook, so don't wait until the last minute, so we can ensure no lapse in your membership.

ADULTS: How do I become a Merit Badge counselor?

First, you need to be an Adult Leader (including completing your YPT certification).  Once you have applied and become an Adult Leader, you need to fill out a Merit Badge Counselor application. Click here for the application:

Then, simply email it to the Committee Chair: tina@lasvegastroop770.org, and she will submit it to Council and the Troop will pay the fee. Once approved, you will remain a Merit Badge Counselor for the MBs you signed up to teach so long as you do not let your membership expire. If you would like to update and add or remove MBs you want to teach, you need to submit a new application.

How do I contact my SM/ASM or Committee or SPL and PLs?

All contacts for the Troop are found in a Google Sheet that can be shared with you upon request.  If you don't already have access, here is the link for you to click and ask for permission to have it shared.
